I seem to remember doing a hell of a lot of moaning and groaning about the impossibly hot weather we had at the end of summer, so now that it’s autumn and perfect and sunny yet mild and the leaves are all copper, I’m making a point of noticing and saying so.
Here’s the view from my lounge, 5 minutes ago:
and I realise there isn’t much copper, so I walked further down the garden and found this:
See? – copper!
Okay, enough of the nature stuff. On Friday I met up with the woman who is doing up her daughter’s bedroom, her colours are aubergine and lime (yep, purple and green!)
With the help of Edie Eckman’s wonderful book of crochet edgings,
and the flower aghan in Simply Crochet Issue 3,
I’ve already finished the two strips (each 2.30 metres long) that will be used to edge two purple aubergine cushions, and have a nice lilac flower on a slate grey background to start off the third cushion.
I don’t usually buy crochet magazines but the cover of this one caught my eye recently (as one reader will know all too well). I’m making the bolero on the front, in camel cotton with a 4mm hook. I’ve just got to the arm shaping bit, but it’s been a lovely easy pattern so far. Size medium. I figure that since I’m still following the Weigh-Less diet, I might not always have to make the very biggest size in everything from now on.
Time will tell, I suppose. Yesterday I went to Lyndall’s 23rd birthday tea where it would simply have been unforgivably rude of me not to join in the feast (devil’s on horseback, nutella muffins, lemon meringue).
I have to run some errands later. Perhaps the exercise will help burn off the extra kilojoules (get it?) (sorry!)
Back soon x
Jill,
I so love purple and green together. Of course I love purple and red together, purple and turquoise, purple and pink; let’s just say I love purple with just about everything. :) I sure would like to be sitting their on the lounge next to you looking out at that view and crocheting. Wouldn’t that be fun? OH yeah I forgot to mention that I love the edging pattern that you chose and the flower cushion will look so adorable with the plain purple pillows edged in crochet. Oh by the way your bolero is looking very lovely and I can’t wait to see the finished item. AND I’m so glad you were able to pick up the magazine that you have had your eye on. ;) Enjoy your autumn day.
Love and Hugs, Tamara
I like purple, too. It’s very versatile. I’ve worked out how much cotton I think I will use and how much time it will all take, and sent the lady my quote. I thought it looked a bit expensive all written down like that, but – she was happy! Yay! The bolero is definitely going to be one of my more successful garment projects, I can tell already.
I’m definitely with Tamara on the colour combo, my fave too. I love crochet edgings but I haven’t tried ant yet. Must add it to my to do list for one day.
i’ve never mixed purple and green together but then I’m not very adventurous when it comes to colours. I really like the fabric she chose, it also has a touch of raspberry.
Gorgeous colours – both garden and crochet!
Thanks for commenting :-)
Gorgeous colours – both garden and crochet!
Thanks for commenting – again. haha !!!
Lovely garden, Jill and as always wonderful crochet.
Well, the instructions are clear ;) See you on Thursday :)
purple and green look great together. Looking forward to seeing your bolero! It’s funny, much as I understand the whole northern/southern hemisphere concept on an intellectual level, I do find it odd that we’re (finally) welcoming in the warmer weather while you’re looking into autumn. :)
It does seem strange to imagine it being at opposite seasons. Autumn and spring are my favourites, but especially autumn. :-)
Beautiful colours!!! the coppers, the purple and green combo (even if they are Aubergine and Lime heehee) stunning. Can’t wait to see the outcome…verrrrrry inspiring ma’am! Ooooh and that bolera is going to be fab. Lovely post Jill, very happy and has made me smile lots.
What a stunning garden, so lovely. Enjoy the copper colours. Purple and green sounds good to me!
Well, only the little bit in the foreground is technically mine, beyond the little gate is “communal”. Which is actually wonderful, because I’m not responsible for weeding it!!!
Strange to think it’s autumn where you are when here it is Spring. It looks like you have wonderful garden. And all your ideas and all you manage to get done in such a short time. You are really amazing!
Yes, you have crocuses (croci??) and we have dead leaves!!! We’ll be up for some unpleasant wet and windy days soon, but right now – it’s like heaven out there :-)
Beautiful colours. Looking at your garden made me think of Kurt Vonnegut who suggested we look around occasionally and remark ” If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is” :)
How lucky you are to have such a lovely view! I’m envious of your palm tree….
We have a few in the communal garden, squirrels live in them.
Do you get inspiration from your garden? I love all the different shades of green. It looks very lush. Looking very different here in the UK atm! We are heading for ‘summer’ whilst you are in autumn. Nature has the best colour combinations! xxx
No I can’t honestly say that I get inspiration from the garden. Or maybe I do but it’s subconscious. But unlikely. I just like being out there (when it’s not too hot and sunny) and listening to the birds. It’s peaceful and I can see the mountain and chat to the squirrels. :-)
