elefanti!

No, you’re not seeing double. There are two throws here folded in half but each one actually measures 140 by 190 cm, which is what the lovely Italian couple ordered :)  They found me at the last Kirstenbosch Craft Market and this was a special order. White elephants (elefanti!) printed on grey denim, mixed in with blues and whites and some neutrals.

Andrea One

Andrea and Martina divide their time between Cape Town and Italy (poor things) and this morning I delivered the throws and so got to see their beautiful 200-year old house in one of the City Bowl’s older suburbs, which they have renovated with exquisite flair. I was actually quite flattered that they wanted to find a place for my patchwork in amongst their European styling and modern look.

Andrea Four

We’ve had a little bit of rain here, not enough to make a difference to the dam levels, but the garden is looking a bit less thirsty. To wake up yesterday to the sound of rain falling was like a gift from heaven.

I’ve been through a dormant period lately (inert? low? uninspired?…something like all of those…) but I’ve felt better in the last couple of days. Autumn helps, as does the support of good friends, who always see me through the lousy times. You know who you are – xxx

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling low. Hopefully the change of season will rally you around. I think everyone feels like that sometimes although a longer period of feeling low is not as easy to return from. I’m glad you have some good friends around you. But what fabulous quilts and what a commendation to order 2!!

I like the quilts very much. Crisp and clean look to them. I am just starting to come out of that feeling after a long, dark, wet and chilly winter. It’s still grey and cloudy but dry finally today. I wish I could send you some rain. We got more than our share this year. Everyone seems to feel a little worn this year.

I know, and it’s still only April! Maybe we need the Easter break – with accompanying license to eat loads of chocolate – to really bring us round :) I’m very glad you are feeling more upbeat xxx

I am in awe of anyone who can sew such beautiful things, you are a very talented lady… and I especially love the elephants on these throws.
I hope that your spirits continue to rise – I’m sure that creativity helps.

I’m sure that my sewing is not good enough to sell, though!
Be kind to yourself as you emerge from the blues – it’s tough and there’s nothing to be gained from being hard on yourself or feeling guilty you are not doing enough. I am happy to say that I am currently full of the joys of spring… seeds are germinating and I’m crocheting dozens of flowers for a particular project.
