I already had a frame for my finished cross-stitch but no glass. I went to Peacocks in Mowbray last week and had a piece cut to fit. It cost me R80. Today I fiddled around with getting the fabric aligned properly and thought what a brilliant idea it would be to use a staple gun to keep the folded-over corners flat at the back. So, yes, it worked – but it also caused the glass to break. Anyone else would have thought of that before they just jumped in, right? Tomorrow – back to Peacocks to cough up another R80. What a waste of money – I could have bought two bottles of cheap dry white for that!
I’ve made a bit of progress with the new cross-stitch, and am really really enjoying using my own selection of colours. I get to use up stash thread and just generally have more fun with the whole thing :
And while we’re on colour, I had to stock up on cushion stuffing this morning. This bolt of fabric from riiiiiiiight on the far side of the shop starting singing my name, and I didn’t even bother to pretend not to listen. I should get three or four cushions out of it, just in time for next week’s Made in the Cape market (the first one of 2019). It’ll be interesting to see if they sell, or if it’s just me thinking Ohmigod I love this and must have it in my house!!!
And here’s a gratuitous photo for Rachel in her Little Room – a close-up of the bottom row of the bookshelf that appeared in my last post. Nice mix, hey? – needlepoint, Ruth Rendell, some South African stuff, the incredibly funny Carl Hiaasen, even a bit of Salman Rushdie!
Another time, how about a glue gun instead of a staple gun? The piece is lovely, and definitely worth the framing. What else is lovely is that fabric, and I can quite see why it sang you a siren song.
The glue gun doesn’t make that fabulous punchy sound. Also I have no idea where it is.
True, the ‘chunk-chunk’ is pretty satisfying…
I’ll be ready for something nice and simple when this is over!
Where did you get the fabric?
it’s a secret
I need to desperately do a project that allows for use of stash thread!
I know, right?! :)
Yup!
Hi Jill. Those cushions are going to fly out of your booth. If I were there, I sure would snag one up. I just love that fabric. I would probably have to crochet the other side, though. :) Maybe a pretty crocheted flower or circle. :) Love and Hugs, Tamara
Lovely idea but my crochet hooks are gathering dust…:(
I understand. Sewing is much quicker than crochet. :)
The cross stitch that I’ve liked so much looks great in it’s frame and I too love you cushion fabric: such a happy mix of colours and patterns.
Yes, I’m so happy that I’ve finished it. And I’ve had a great response about this fabric, have a couple of cushions underway.
Wowsers, that fabric. Those cushions will fly for sure. I feel your pain over the glass/stapler idea. That’s is just the sort of dippy dora thing I would do, not that you are a dippy dora, but I am.
I love looking at people’s books, is that Chocolat I spot? Good luck with the sale by the way.
It is, I’ve read all her books and short stories :) I love that she also comes from up north!
You do crack me up. I had to read all the words the second time and they made me laugh. I use a staple gun too but started using an electric one. Not so much glass breakage. ;) I realize now why I rarely buy books in the bookstore or borrow from the library. It’s hard to read the titles in that direction. ;) Your needlework came out beautiful.
Thanks, Marlene xxx
I almost certainly would have done the same thing and had to buy the glass again! These things seem like such a good idea at the time…
Oh noooo I feel so bad for only droppping in to read this now! Twelve days late or so my reader tells me. Whooops. And I can’t be sarky about using a staple gun while the work was actually in the frame (D’oh!!!) because I’m already on thin ice……!
Love the selection and totally see why the fabric shouted to you.
Haven’t read many blogs for over a week (2 probably) glad I came to see yours today xx
WordPress seems to have pruned my reading list for me – I don’t read nearly as many blogs as I used to either. I like to say it’s because I’m working just that bit harder so I have less time but that would be a complete lie…..
Hope you are well? xxx
