I made another three-strand wrap-around necklace with my straw beads and rather like the effect of making them a bit chubbier and more shapely! I used some pink and purple DK acrylic yarn for the first layer of wrapping, which fattens them up nicely, then just a few strands of lime green embroidery cotton on top.

Just thought I’d share because I see there have been a lot of visits to my etsy store, so I added these pics to the tutorial as well :) In case you haven’t gotten around to looking yet, the listing is here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1115954156/tutorial-necklace-with-handmade-fabric
Yes, I know, this is a bit of flagrant self-promotion, but you gotta try your best, right?
Gorgeous, really beautiful and so clever. Sending you an email about the other one!
You are kind with the compliments! Going to gmail right now……
Those necklaces look like they keep your hands too busy to get into the cookie jar. Probably a good bonus. They look so fun to make though I rarely, if ever wear any jewelry anymore. They are quite colorful and fun looking. Hope you sell lots on your shop.
Cookie jar? I can’t allow myself to keep one in the house!
Thanks for the comment, Marlene, fingers crossed x
Self-promote away Jill, these gorgeous beads deserve all the praise. You are a super star with your colours and ideas.
Thanks, Gail – that’s a very sweet compliment xx Hoping to be able to visit KM soon, by the way….
These are beautiful. Fabulous colours and textures. x
Thank you :)
Absolutely you have!
Some of those views were me because I was buying something from Etsy and naturally checked out your store. ;-)
Aha!!
This is so cool. When you say “straws” are your referring to pieces of plastic drinking straws?
Hi Laura, yes, those are the ones. They are being phased out in South Africa and replaced with paper-based ones, which also work perfectly.
